Chris Evans is the ultimate dog dad. The Captain America actor often takes to social media to share updates on his adorable rescue pup Dodger. On Tuesday (August 10), Evans revealed his and Dodger's latest adventure—teaching Dodger how to speak.
"I kept seeing videos of these touchpads for dogs so I figured I’d give them a shot," Evans wrote on Instagram alongside a video of Dodger pressing a button with his paw. When Dodger pressed down the button, a robotic voice says the word "treat." Evans then rewarded Dodger with a treat.
"After a couple days of training he began connecting the dots," Evans continued. "This video is from a couple days ago when he was just starting to understand that the buttons are buttons. He’s already made so much progress and I laugh out loud every time I hear him press one. I thought ‘treat’ would be the most used. Turns out it’s ‘play’ and I f**king love that about him."
As Evans mentioned, videos of dog owners training their dogs how to speak via these touchpads have grown increasingly popular over the past year. One popular account, which has almost 900k followers, documents the journey of a young sheepadoodle named Bunny as he learns to communicate with his owner via buttons. Bunny's owner, Alexis Devine, has trained the pup to understand more than 40 words.
Though Dodger only knows "treat" and "play" right now, it seems like he's enjoying learning how to talk with Evans via touchpad. Let's keep our fingers crossed Evans keeps us updated on Dodger's progress.
