San Bernardino Schools Will Continue Online For The Upcoming School Year!

Many school districts are still trying to figure out if they are going to do hybrid classes or continue online learning for the upcoming school year. However, San Bernardino is the first school district to announce their plan, which is to continue online learning. The school board voted unanimously to go online-only when the new school year starts on August 3rd. School Board President of the San Bernardino City Unified School District, Gwen Rodgers says,

"It was a hard decision on one end to say we know that traditional school, unfortunately, is not going to be there for those that are either entering or transitioning. But when it came to the side of safety it was very easy for me."

The school district is paying for students to have internet at home and the kids were already given Google Chromebooks so they'll be able to access their school work. During the pandemic, many teachers found problems with online learning as 15% of students weren't participating and teachers weren't allowed to lower the grades, but this fall everyone will be graded. It's still unknown when students might actually be back in their classrooms. Assistant Superintendent Rachel Monarrez says,

"We're still working through the details, and we'll be doing that with our teacher union. But the goal will be that we have students on campus half the time, and the other half they're in a virtual setting."
