The latest scam that cybercriminals are using to steal your financial information is through the QR codes that restaurants and businesses have been using during the pandemic. The FBI said in a public advisory that scammers are using fraudulent QR codes to direct people to malicious sites in order to steal their data or hijack payments. This announcement comes after discovering fraudulent QR code stickers on more than two dozen parking stations in Austin, Texas earlier this month. The FBI is warning people to check the websites that QR codes direct them to carefully and advises people to use their phones' app stores, rather than QR codes, to download any mobile apps.
